Queen Mary's Home for SALE!

The Queen Mary's Home in Hampstead has been put on sale by the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust as freehold for a luxury homes development. It comes accompanied by a 125year leasehold for a small, decant site on RFH Pond Street to house all affordable units.

A preliminary design for the new development has already been prepared and includes demolition of all existing buildings on both sites. Knight Frank are marketing the development with the following intro:
"Hampstead has long be recognised as one of the wealthiest suburbs in London with some of the most desirable addresses in the capital. Hampstead has attracted purchasers from around the world drawn to the area's village like feel coupled with its accessibility to central London. Historically the Hampstead residential market has lacked a supply of high quality luxury developments with a shortage of suitable sites coming to market. Hampstead Gardens with its ideal position between the Village and Heath offers an excellent opportunity to create a development capable of setting a new standard in luxury living for the area."

This is exactly what Hampstead does not need - more empty luxury homes which most of us - local residents and workers can not afford. Is this really the way of dealing with the housing crisis?
